Call for Signatures: Alumni for Fair Elections
As you may know, the Yale Alumni Fellow Election began earlier today. We would like to bring your attention the below letter calling for more information about where the trustee candidates stand on the critical issues of free speech and intellectual diversity on campus. Alumni for Fair Elections
The Yale Board of Trustees PO Box 208230 New Haven, CT 06520-8230
To the Yale Board of Trustees:
We, the undersigned alumni of Yale University, are writing to call upon you to permit and encourage the candidates for the Alumni Fellow Election to participate in a forum on free expression and intellectual diversity hosted by the William F. Buckley, Jr. Program.
While alumni are asked to vote in the Alumni Fellow Election concluding on May 21st, beyond biographical statements, no information is provided about any of the candidates. Events at Yale and across the nation in recent years have renewed the important role trustees play in keeping the university true to its core values of intellectual freedom and open, honest debate. The views of the trustee candidates on these critical issues are of concern to all alumni who care about the future of Yale and seek to cast an informed ballot. We urge you to help make that possible.
We understand the Board of Trustees recently announced initiatives to improve its accessibility to the Yale community. We submit, however, that more is required than upgrading a website or referring to the Yale Corporation by a new name. Yale can and must do better.
